Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery have:
- Excessive sagging or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin
- Excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision, especially peripheral vision
- Lost or hidden natural upper eyelid crease
- Puffy pouches of fat in the upper or lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance
Your eyelid lift procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Denver facial plastic surgeons Dr. John A. Grossman and Dr. Philippe A. Capraro will make an incision by the natural crease in the upper eyelids and below the lower eyelid lash line. Excess fat and skin are removed from the eyelid region.
In certain cases where excess skin is only present in the lower eyelids, lasers can be used to shrink the skin and achieve a more youthful appearance.
Your sutures will be removed three to five days after your procedure. You may experience bruising and sensitivity to light for a week or two after surgery, but this will gradually subside. Eye makeup can be worn once your sutures are removed. It may take 7-10 days before you can wear contact lenses. The entire healing process will vary among individuals, but it generally takes 2-4 weeks to complete.
Often, Dr. Grossman and Dr. Capraro will perform an eyelid lift in conjunction with other procedures to provide enhanced results. These facial restoration procedures may include:
