For those lucky enough to be born with them, dimples can be a truly prized possession. They form above the corners of the mouth when a person smiles:
Dimple plastic surgery, also called dimpleplasty, is a relatively quick procedure performed in-office under local anesthesia only. The recovery is not prolonged and for most people the results are permanent.
The experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon performing your dimpleplasty will make a small incision in the inner surface of your cheek. An absorbable suture is used to create dimples at the site of the incision.
For up to a few weeks, these sutured dimples will be apparent all the time, even when you are not smiling. As the skin heals and the absorbable suture is replaced by scar tissue, the dimples will begin to look softer and even more natural.
Because local anesthesia is used, the recovery from dimple surgery is not unduly long or taxing. Most people return to work after a few days, once the swelling and redness have subsided somewhat, and the dimples are looking softer. We’ll make sure you know all of the rules during the several days following, such as:
- How many hours to wait before eating after dimpleplasty
- How to clean and care for the treatment area
- When to come back to our office for a follow-up
