Board-certified Denver Plastic Surgeon Dr. John A. Grossman was recently on the television program The View with an 81-year-old patient who was preparing to have a facelift. One of the questions he was asked was “Do you think it’s safe to do such surgery on a woman of this age?” That question can easily be rephrased as “Can I be too old for plastic surgery?”
Dr. Grossman’s response on The View is the same response he gives to patients of any age:
Facelifting is not meant for younger people…the risks are no greater for a healthy person at 81 than they are for a healthy person at 71…the real issues are: is her health appropriate for this kind of surgery? Will she tolerate her anesthesia? Even more importantly, are her expectations reasonable?
This last point is very important. Facial plastic surgery can remove up to 10 years from your face. It cannot make you look like a teenager again.
Good Candidates for Plastic Surgery
If you have reasonable expectations of what plastic surgery can accomplish for you, the only other considerations will be your health. Good candidates for plastic surgery should:
- Be in good overall health
- Not be smokers
- Understand the risks inherent in any surgical procedure
- Be prepared to undergo a surgical procedure
- Be prepared for a recovery period
If you are in good health, have realistic expectations, and a true desire to improve the look and feel of your body, you are never too old for plastic surgery. During your initial consultation, all considerations will be made as regards your health and desires, and the decision best for your body will be determined.
If you are considering plastic surgery in or around Denver, Colorado, no matter what your age, please contact Grossman Plastic Surgery to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. John Grossman or Dr. John Capraro today.
