While liposuction and CoolSculpting both shape and contour your body, they’re not the same. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that suctions away fatty deposits in nearly any area of your body. In contrast, CoolSculpting is a non-surgical method of fat reduction that permanently freezes away targeted fat cells.
How Liposuction Works
Liposuction removes fat from your body that’s resistant to diet and exercise. Our patients commonly use liposuction to treat their:
- Face and neck
- Chest and upper arms
- Stomach and back
- Hips, thighs, and buttocks
It can also augment other procedures, such as a mommy makeover or tummy tuck, for enhanced results.
Liposuction is performed by making a series of small incisions along with your treatment sites, which allows us to then remove your unwanted body fat. We offer several liposuction options to meet a wide range of needs, including Tumescent Liposuction and VASER® Liposelection.
Liposuction Recovery & Results
Liposuction can provide you with dramatic results, but your results may not be fully visible until one to three months after your procedure. Rest is key to reducing post-surgical swelling so you can enjoy your new figure.
You should avoid intense activity for four to six weeks after your liposuction surgery and adhere to our recovery guidelines in order to heal properly. If you have a strenuous job or are unable to take time away from a busy, active lifestyle, CoolSculpting may be a better option for you.
How CoolSculpting Works
Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting requires no incisions or anesthesia. The treatment works using a scientifically proven method called cryolipolysis to freeze away specific fat cells.
CoolSculpting is FDA-approved to treat certain areas of your body. This includes your:
- Abdomen and flanks
- Back and upper arms
- Under the chin
- Inner and outer thighs
- Below the buttocks
Multiple applicators can be used to treat two or more areas at once for quicker results. You will likely need several sessions to reach your ideal aesthetic. During your initial consultation, we will help you develop a treatment plan that fits your needs.
CoolSculpting Recovery & Results
Completed in as little as 35 minutes per session, you can return to work and resume normal activities immediately following your CoolSculpting appointment. Side effects are minimal and may include mild swelling or redness in your treated areas.
Most patients see results approximately three weeks after their final CoolSculpting treatment. As your body continues to flush out your fat cells, your results continue to improve for up to two months. Minor reductions can continue to be seen for up to six months.
Fat Reduction, Not Weight Loss
It’s important to remember that neither liposuction nor CoolSculpting is a weight-loss method. Losing weight happens when your fat cells get smaller, but these two procedures eliminate your treated fat cells altogether.
While you won’t necessarily see a smaller number on the scale after liposuction or CoolSculpting, you will enjoy a more toned form. Both of these procedures are designed to reduce stubborn pockets of body fat so you can look and feel your best. Our team can help you determine which procedure is best suited to your needs.
