My Consultation
I first chose to pursue a breast augmentation experience with Dr. Capraro because my breasts were fairly asymmetrical, and I was looking for more fullness and symmetry. He had completed another surgery of mine 12 years ago, and his attention to detail and level of personalized attention left an unforgettable impression!
This time around was not much different. I have always been self-conscious of how my breasts looked, and the way the staff approached both photos and the exam made me feel as though I was completely normal. Everyone on their team made sure I was heard and at ease throughout the entire process. It really helped reduce my anxiety! Dr. Capraro also used slides that explained every step of my procedure in detail and were extremely helpful as a visual learner!
Leading Up: Breast Augmentation Surgery
Jojo, or Jodell, the surgical coordinator, was on top of everything! As we were coming closer to my surgery date, she was so communicative, easy to talk to, and never made me feel like I had a dumb question (despite asking the same ones a few times over). She ensured that I was completely prepared and that I had my ducks in a row for both the operation and my recovery. She truly is a guardian angel who guided me through the entire process.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
On the day of my Breast Augmentation procedure, I was feeling a mix of emotions, from nervousness to excitement and everything in between. Nicole, Dr. Capraro’s Physician Assistant, was such a calming presence, and after speaking to both Dr. Capraro and my anesthesiologist, I felt confident that they had everything under control! After a few minutes of chatting with them, I fell straight asleep and woke up being wheeled out to my ride home with no memory of my breast implant experience. Outside of some itchiness in my throat from the breathing tube, I noticed very little discomfort. Above anything else, I was feeling incredibly tired the rest of the day! After getting home, I happily slept for an additional few hours before feeling like my medications had worn off.
I do have asthma as well, so I wanted to note my appreciation for being sent home with an incentive spirometer. With the previously mentioned scratchiness, I felt a few moments where I could not catch my breath or was coughing heavily. This device was a lifesaver and helped me feel back to normal after a few uses.
My Breast Augmentation Recovery (First Few Days)
In the initial days following surgery, I was sore and quite swollen. The nurses at GCPS reassured me that my breasts would appear a little abnormal due to the swelling and got me to focus on how they would look after fully healing. Thankfully, I was able to have someone with me to help me stay on schedule with my medications for the first two nights. Regarding the activities I had scheduled for this time, I kept everything low-effort and low-pace. I took a lot of casual walks and could tell when I was overusing my arms or upper body.
For those considering these breast augmentation stories, there were a few things I was not aware of or did not think of in advance. If you do not have help or just want to get ahead, I would recommend prepping your medications by removing them from the child-proof bottles they come in. These are challenging when you’re in recovery! It is also normal for the body to react to anaesthesia and new breast augmentation implants. I had light vaginal spotting during the first two days post-procedure and noticed that my breasts felt ‘squeaky,’ like there was bubble wrap beneath my implants. The nurses were there for every shock and concern and assured me this was all standard. Lastly, adding some lozenges to your medicine cabinet may be a nice relief from the scratchy, sore throat!
Recovery (1 week+)
Over a week out now, and I am feeling better and better by the day! The GCPS team called me the day after surgery to check in and answer any questions, and I have been on-call for those I’ve had following the first day. I found that the most difficult part of the recovery process was listening to my body. I felt good afterwards and tend to keep a busy schedule, so there were a few times I noticed brain fog or overworking and had to step back briefly.
Regardless of the rough parts of the procedure, I am so happy that I chose to work with Dr. Capraro and have already noticed an increase in confidence. His experience, personalism, and care truly make him stand out as one of the best in Denver! The team as a whole is so great and made the experience feel as enjoyable and stress-free as possible; I felt like I was a part of their practice family. I could not be happier with my results.
