Liposuction is a time-tested aesthetic procedure. It sculpts the contours of your body by reducing excessive fat in various areas. Is 2024 the year you pursue this body-shaping procedure? Liposuction certainly hasn’t remained static over the decades. It has evolved and now incorporates various technologies and can be customized to the look you want. Please read below to learn more.
About Liposuction
Below we’ve outlined several interesting aspects of this procedure. If you have any questions or are ready to arrange a consultation at our Denver or Greenwood Village office, please call our staff at 303-557-4972.
Modern liposuction methods: There’s more than one technique.
Liposuction can be completed in a variety of ways, not just with a single method. At Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery, we use a combination of technologies that, over the years, we have found to be the most beneficial, safe, comfortable, and effective for our patients:
- Tumescent liposuction, which includes injecting a solution of local anesthetic (lidocaine) and adrenaline into the fat that is getting removed. This solution serves two purposes: The adrenaline reduces bleeding and the lidocaine numbs the area. Then, a thin, hollow tube called a “cannula” is used to suction away the fat cells.
- VASER liposuction, which is an ultrasonic probe used to prepare the fat before it is removed. The thin device causes the fat cells and tumescent fluid to emulsify, which makes the fat easier to remove. The plastic surgeon then uses the cannula to easily suction away the fat and fluid. Some tumescent fluid remains, providing a numbing, anesthetic effect as you recover.
Please see our before-and-after gallery for examples of what is possible with liposuction.
Liposuction has never been able to remove sag in addition to puff.
A common misconception is that a liposuction is a good option for reducing excess fat and sagging areas of fat, such as a drooping midriff. In actuality, liposuction is very good at its intended purpose – removing isolated areas of extra fat. It is not designed to tighten significant drooping skin. It works best with skin that is firm and elastic. Drooping skin requires a tummy tuck or other skin-lifting procedure.
Do you have a weight loss resolution for 2024? Achieve that goal first.
Liposuction is also not designed to be a way for you to lose weight. Sure, the amount of fat removed will have a weight that will be eliminated from your overall body weight, but you can expect it to be negligible. Instead, liposuction is most effective once you have reached your ideal body weight, then it can be used to sculpt and shape your contours by removing stubborn remaining fat cells.
Active lifestyle? Plan for downtime.
In 2024, we feel like we may be more active than ever before! Especially along the Front Range where energy and action are part and parcel of living here. So if you’re thinking about getting liposuction in the new year, take note that downtime is involved. For a few weeks, you will need to take time off from certain strenuous exercise and physical activity. We’ll make sure you know what to expect.
You may need only one treatment.
With modern liposuction methods, many people need only a single treatment to get the results they want. Consult our plastic surgeons about what will be most effective for you.
